Thank you for being here, I’m Athena.

Without a plan, I moved to New York from San Francisco (where I was born and raised) to chase my dreams of becoming a designer. Along the way, I discovered my passion for HealthTech and FinTech.

Surprisingly, there are many overlaps between designing for Health and FinTech. Both are highly regulated industries, prioritize security and privacy of information, and can have complex and daunting workflows that users must face.

Why HealthTech?
When I think of digital products that have impacted my life the most, HealthTech has consistently improved the quality of my life throughout the years.

The deeply personal impact to a user’s well-being and the huge opportunities for innovation in this (sometimes) archaic industry are why I am so excited about this space. My first taste of designing for HealthTech was at a women’s health non-profit, and working with the loveliest women-led team for users I empathized with at a personal level sealed the deal for me.

Why FinTech?
In a past life, I was an accountant. I worked at a Big 4 public accounting firm, Ernst & Young, and a Series F data-analytics startup called Sisense (which was my first forray into Tech!).

As a first-hand user, I can confirm that well-designed financial software DOES make a difference on the job when your mind is already spinning from crunching numbers, analyses, and navigating through complex systems.

Outside of work, my partner and I lead Soaks, a eco-friendly Swedish dish cloth brand that brings fun back to cleaning!
